Hosting a Favorite Things Party

Hosting a Favorite Things Party

So Saturday, December 9th was my 5th Annual Favorite Things Party. I cannot believe I’ve hosted five of these. I absolutely love this party and really enjoy having it between Thanksgiving and Christmas, even though that is a crazy time. I love the giving spirit that people are in and I love the great idea sharing for Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers. We had 12 ladies come, including my new neighbor and my two great friends from college who drove…

Shirlington Tree Lighting Ceremony

Shirlington Tree Lighting Ceremony

Each year, the neighborhood where Mike and I met has a tree lighting ceremony to kick off the Christmas season. There are live musicians. There are carolers in matching sweaters. There are horse-drawn carriages and hot chocolate and light up toys and balloon animals and magic in the air. There is a gorgeous Christmas tree that they light up after a (poorly-executed) countdown. And most importantly, there is SANTA. Which means that littles come with their parents from miles around…

A Pots and Pans Kind of Day

A Pots and Pans Kind of Day

My mom is always talking about letting little ones into the kitchen cabinets and letting them bang around on pots and pans. So I let Caroline have at it: And it did not disappoint. The pots and the lids were huge hits: The colander also became a quick hit: There were even some attempts at crawling, under the careful eye of her supervisor, the esteemed Mr. Finnegan. It did leave her wondering what else she could get into: But after…

Taking the Plunge

Taking the Plunge

There comes a time, in every relationship, where you realize you simply must move on. You realize you have gotten all you can from it and you are just not interested in trying to make it work out any longer. I’m looking at you, iPhone 5s. I am done with your tiny screen, mediocre camera, and constantly draining battery. I am so over your random shutdowns at 26% (why?????) when I desperately need to capture my baby sitting in a…

Caroline’s 1st Thanksgiving

Caroline’s 1st Thanksgiving

Over the river and through the woods… Or in our case, Uber to DCA, fly to ATL, take MARTA to the suburbs, then drive to Alpharetta…for Caroline’s first Thanksgiving! We had an absolutely wonderful time. It sounds like a lot of planes, trains, and automobiles, but honestly, no complaints here. Logistically, the trip was seamless, thanks in large part to the wonderful door-to-airport service we were treated to by Mike’s brother for both legs of our trip. My favorite travel…

Hair Shoppe

Hair Shoppe

So this little girl enjoys her bath like nobody’s business. Around here though we call bath time Hair Shoppe. (We even have a little song about it, to the tune of “Under the Boardwalk.” It is something I started doing when she first came home from the hospital and it just sorta stuck. We also use this time to gossip about nonsense, as ladies tend to do when they are at a real Hair Shoppe. I just want to make…

Caroline Meets Santa Claus

Caroline Meets Santa Claus

So even though we’re a week away from Thanksgiving, we took Caroline to meet The Big Guy. SANTA CLAUS! I realize this is not the typical time for your little one to meet the man in the jolly red suit, but when you have out of town plans for Turkey Day AND you have family to visit in Florida starting in mid-December, you realize quickly that you’re running out of weekends so you do crazy things like get all dolled…

Caroline at 8 Months

Caroline at 8 Months

Today, this Little Girl went and turned eight months old on me. And on a Tuesday, nonetheless! She was born on a Tuesday. She celebrated by sitting on the counter playing Hair Shoppe with a pineapple, making baby squeaks. You know, as you do. Here is a snapshot of Caroline at 8 months: Loves apples and prunes, green beans, and using her water cup like a big girl Notices everything–bubbles in the bathtub, my work badge, blades of grass Loves…

Sofie: More Than Just A Giraffe

Sofie: More Than Just A Giraffe

People with little ones know all about Sophie. Sophie is a very expensive, sophisticated French giraffe. She is often gifted to new parents. At every baby shower I have ever attended, a hot topic of conversation is how no one can believe that this item costs almost $30 American. Sophie basically looks, feels, and sounds exactly like a puppy chew toy, but she is, admittedly for some parents, the best $30 you could ever spend. The reason is simple. Babies…

Take My Hand

Take My Hand

Caroline loves little people. She has always been fascinated by children, even when she was only a few weeks old. She would stare at them longer than she would for adults and now she has started staring at them for awkwardly long lengths of time. Her love for little ones includes her new baby cousin Roman, who arrived on early October. She met Roman on his birthday and again this weekend. I am pretty sure the two of them whipped…
