Mommy & Caroline’s Breakfast Dates

Mommy & Caroline’s Breakfast Dates

So every now and then at the Spead house, we all sleep in too late and Caroline misses daycare breakfast, which is served promptly at 9 am. I don’t mind! Hey, I will take a toddler who wakes up at 8:30 any day over one who wakes up at 6:30. I am NOT a morning person so this is fine by me. Not to mention Vivi has just started sleeping though the night, but not consistently, so there are nights…

Vivienne’s Sip and See

Vivienne’s Sip and See

On January 12, Vivienne Kathleen was celebrated in style! Joy and Lee threw the most wonderful Sip and See at Ed and Susan’s house. Holly helped with the baking and everything was just beautiful–there were so many sweet touches and it was great to have my friends and family gathered to met this little lady. We dressed her in the gorgeous handmade outfit from Raul’s mom, which Vivi received for Christmas: They decorated the mantle with this sweet banner and…

Caroline’s First Haircut + NYE 2018

Caroline’s First Haircut + NYE 2018

So Mike and I ended 2018 with two very important firsts for Caroline: her first haircut and her first rock concert. In that order! Vivienne came along for both, in true little sister style. Caroline’s hair had started looking a bit unkempt and I got a referral for Salam, a toddler girl hair stylist from a friend of a friend who has little girls in the area. So after nap time, off we went! Salam was busy so we kindly…

Boo at the Zoo!

Boo at the Zoo!

Over the weekend, we attended the National Zoo’s Boo at the Zoo event. This event is held only one weekend each October, and features “more than 40 trick-or-treat stations, animal demonstrations, and spooky, decorated trails.” Mike, Caroline, and I dressed up in our finest Star Wars costumes and added a few warm coats, because fall had come to stick around. We arrived at the zoo right before sunset and just before they opened the doors, letting the thousands of excited…

An Egg-cellent Easter

An Egg-cellent Easter

This Easter was one for the books. We had a wonderful Easter weekend! I got out of work early on Good Friday and came home to spend time with this face, who was spending the day with her daddy since daycare was on Spring Break. We enjoyed a beautiful day on Saturday. Warm, sunny, and windy. We headed to a neighborhood event in the park that featured kite flying, egg rolling, giant bubble blowing fun. Afterwards, we headed to Chick…

Sugar Bear the Polar Bear

Sugar Bear the Polar Bear

The day my family flew back to Florida, the weather was cold and rainy. As the day went on, it also got colder and the wind picked up. The air smelled like snow. Then I learned that snow was in the forecast for the very next day–March 21. Up to 6 inches, in fact. We woke up the next morning to a Winter Wonderland. Add believe it or not, this was the most snow we got for the entire season….

Super Bowl Love

Super Bowl Love

Patriots v. Eagles. This was the big showdown for the 2018 Super Bowl and we decided to fly Mike’s dad down from Lowell to NoVA so these two Patriots fans could watch the game together. To be honest, even though it would have been amazing to watch the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Super Bowl, I was really glad that Mike and his dad could share the experience. During last year’s Super Bowl, I know Mike was missing him when it…

Teddy Roosevelt Island

Teddy Roosevelt Island

Where do you go when you have a few hours in the afternoon of a delightful day in late January, when you just want to be outside, take a stroll, not spend a ton of money, and have a group of people (including two babies and two dogs) you are trying to accommodate? If you live in the DC area, Teddy Roosevelt Island! This lovely hidden gem along the GW Parkway is a great option for such an event. There’s…

American History Museum

American History Museum

While Kay Kay and Pa were here, we were looking for something fun to do. Criteria: Caroline had to come too, it had to be indoors, free/cheap is always a bonus, and it had to be fun for adults, too. We tried a handful of ideas and finally landed on the American History Museum because it had an exhibit on Sesame Street and promised a free children’s play area. We headed out on a gray, drizzling day with fairly low…

Jags v. Pats Showdown

Jags v. Pats Showdown

Last Saturday, the Patriots stomped all over the Titans and secured themselves a spot in the AFC Championship game. That didn’t surprise anyone—it is the Patriots, afterall. You expect them to win. But then the very next day, my high schools friends and I gathered together and watched the Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Pittsburgh Steelers…at Heinz Field, no less. All those Steelers fans with all of their terrible towels. But the Jaguars were up for the task! Especially when…
