Mother’s Day 2020

Mother’s Day 2020

I took zero pictures over Mother’s Day weekend this year. It was a beautiful weekend and we all really enjoyed it–we were too busy enjoying it to take pictures! Anyway, here’s a quick recap, since I will want to remember this time pre-baby…

Friday Night: Mike and I cut out of work around 5 pm and I came downstairs to Mike making homemade meatball subs. Talk about starting the weekend off right! This is one of my favorites. They were delicious. And I didn’t have to clean up anything ;). After we got our kids down, he and I hung out on the front steps and chatted then went inside, made chocolate chip cookies, and watched Mad Men.

Saturday: I woke up to both little ladies in my bed playing happily together and with Mike. Caroline noticed me stirring and said “Happy Mother’s Day!” She handed me an envelope–it was Clue #1 for my Scavenger Hunt. The Scavenger Hunt took me to the basement, the kitchen, and back upstairs again. Caroline helped me count the clues (10 total!) and we solved them together, with Vivi hot on our heels, running from site to site. The ultimate gift waited at the end: a beautiful emerald ring. Emerald is the birthstone for May. Clearly Mike’s betting on a May baby!

Mike made us breakfast all then we played together, walking to the park and riding scooters. We all had lunch and then at naptime, I headed over first to Chick-Fil-A (for cookies!) and then to Joy’s house for a socially-distancing hang out session-with cookies. I told her we deserved it for being such great moms–a little gift to ourselves 😉 We had a fun time catching up and it was nice to get out of the house.

I came home and we all played in the playroom then Mike had the awesome idea of ordering Morton’s for dinner. It was delicious!

Sunday: Mike and Caroline made pancakes and bacon, then we spent the morning with all of us playing in the playroom, building castles. At one point, Suelen popped in with a sweet gift for me (wonderful smelling bath products!), a really nice card, and a video she made of the girls that of course made me cry it was so beautifully done and just captures both of them so well right now.

After lunch, Mike stayed home with Vivi while I took Caroline to the park for a special kite flying mission that was adorable. It was a beautiful day and perfect for kite flying. We only got it airborne once but Caroline had a ball trying. We came home and both she and I took naps. Delightful! When we got up, we headed out to the Nature Center for some easy hikes, scootering, throwing rocks in the water, and animal spotting in the pond. On the way home, we grabbed milkshakes and enjoyed them at Fort Scott Park. Vivi loves ice cream as much as Caroline did at that age and cried when hers was all gone–Mike and I told Caroline all about how she did that as a baby, too 😉 We headed home and had dinner together, then put the exhausted little ladies to bed.

It was a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend–I’m so grateful to be a mom to these two little ladies and to their sweet dad who made me feel extra special on this big day!

Here is the card I sent to my own wonderful mom, letting her know two very important things: 1) She was right, about everything…all moms are. I know this now. And 2) Sorry I was so bad when I was little.

And here is Caroline’s card for Kay Kay:

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful moms out there!
