FOMO and Not Sleeping at Daycare
FOMO–or, as it is known in some circles, is called Fear Of Missing Out. It is a very real disease–one that I know I have, and one that I suspected Caroline has as well.
Well, now I know for sure. Caroline has been in the Infant 1 room for two weeks and a day. We get a report each evening and it tells you what your child ate, their diaper activity, and how long they napped.
I know Caroline’s report will always say “ate all her breakfast/lunch/snack” so when I receive the update, I immediately scroll to the end to see about her nap. Since she started here, she has yet to sleep longer than 42 minutes at a clip. At home, she usually sleeps for a solid two hour block in the morning and another 1.5 hours in the afternoon. After a week of this, I started asking questions.
Her assigned crib is in the Times Square spot of the classroom. It is right next to a window into the Infant 2 classroom and while she is supposed to be sleeping, Caroline is busy spying on her peers. Her crib is also smooshed between two other cribs, so Caroline spends her nap time making “ba, ba, BA!” noises for the enjoyment of those around her.
I got a call at work one afternoon around 3 PM. Caroline’s teacher, Ms. Faye, said that Caroline had a fever of 100.0 and that it was imperative that I come and get her and bring her home. So I did. I gave her some Motrin and loaded her up in the wagon to enjoy the 67 degree day–a wonderful treat for late February!
I know. This looks like the face of sickness if I’ve ever seen one. Ha! She loved it.
Due to the fever, Caroline and I had to stay home the following day too. And guess who napped for 2 hours in the morning and 1.5 hours in the afternoon? I guess she had to get it in for the rest of the week.
Happy napping, Sugar Bear!
