Caroline’s 1st Halloween, 2nd ER Visit
Caroline’s first Halloween was a tremendous success on all fronts! Wellll, most fronts anyway 🙂
I shot out of bed all excited, ready for the fun to start happening. But Halloween is a cruel holiday like that. You have to make it through a day at work pretending like you are not going home to do anything awesome. It’s almost as if everyone is trying to act like they are too cool for this day, and that it doesn’t matter and isn’t a big deal.
Well, it’s a BIG deal. Especially when you have a first-timer.
Mike and I left work a little early so we could take our little trick-or-treater out on the town. We all got dolled up in our costumes and plopped our little lobster into her pot. (At the last minute, Mike and I added the pen in the pocket of our chef jackets. Nice touch, right?)
Mike looked pretty authentic, right? I mean, I would eat anything this guy cooks. Caroline looks like she’s accepted the fact that she’s outnumbered on this one. Lobster you say? Sigh. As you wish, parents. As you wish.
Our little lobstah mainly wanted to eat the jack-o-lantern on our front porch.
Caroline was perfectly comfortable in the pot, thanks to the secret weapon of the super cozy blanket in the bottom. Who needs a stroller when a $20 pot from Target does the trick?
We enjoyed a glass of wine with our lovely new neighbor and then headed over to the Fairlington neighborhood to meet up with friends to trick-or-treat. By that time, it was dark and chilly and the metal pot was too cold to be a mode of transport for our daughter. We opted for the comfortable carseat instead and she seemed pleased. She immediately passed out from all the fun.
The neighbors sure knew how to treat their Halloween company, serving beer, wine, and food at the various houses.
After trick-or-treating, we headed home, and found Caroline’s fever had returned in full force. We gave her Tylenol and she slept for a bit. She then woke up at 2 am with a temp of 102 and by 3 am it had climbed to 105.2. This time, I was the one who called it. One-oh-FIVE??? Um, no. Off we all sped to the ER. When we arrived, it was clear the medicine had kicked in fully because her fever was down to 101. Well. We felt silly. But who wants to mess around with a 105 fever?
By the time we got home from the ER, it was 5:45 am and Mike got to make the decision whether it was worth it to sleep for a tiny bit before catching his 8 am flight to Chicago, where he was going for the day for work. I slept a little, knowing I’d be home sick with my hot little lobster the next day.
I woke up bleary-eyed and this was breakfast. Halloween enthusiasts in this house, I tell you!
